Configuration Backups
Open Console → WAF → [your domain] → Backups. Create a manual snapshot at any time or let HEIMWALL create one automatically before significant changes. Restore any backup instantly — the previous configuration is live on edge nodes within seconds.
What a backup contains
Section titled “What a backup contains”A backup captures the complete WAF configuration for a domain at a point in time:
- All firewall rules (order, conditions, actions)
- Rate limiting and Failban thresholds
- Bot Score action thresholds
- Managed rules mode and any overrides
- IP list contents
- Waiting Room settings
- Custom page HTML templates
- SSL/TLS settings
- Cache TTL and mode settings
Creating a manual backup
Section titled “Creating a manual backup”Go to Console → WAF → [your domain] → Backups → Create Backup. Add an optional label to identify the snapshot (e.g. “before rate limit change” or “post-launch baseline”). The backup is created immediately and appears at the top of the list.
Automatic backups
Section titled “Automatic backups”HEIMWALL creates an automatic backup before certain operations — for example, when you enable or disable managed rules, or when you bulk-edit firewall rules. Automatic backups are listed alongside manual ones and can be restored the same way.
Restoring a backup
Section titled “Restoring a backup”Click Restore on any backup entry. HEIMWALL replaces the current configuration with the saved snapshot and deploys it to all edge nodes within seconds. The restore itself creates a new automatic backup of the state before the restore, so you can undo a restore if needed.
HEIMWALL keeps the last 20 backups per domain (manual and automatic combined). When the limit is reached, the oldest backup is removed. Each backup can also be exported as a JSON file for external storage.
