Geo-routing

When you enable “Route via WAF” on an A or AAAA record, geo-routing is set up automatically. HEIMWALL returns the IP of the most suitable edge node to whoever queries the DNS record. No manual setup is needed.

Match priority order

Section titled “Match priority order”

The responding edge node is selected in this order:

  1. Country — if a node exists in the visitor’s country, that node is chosen
  2. EEA — if there is no country match, visitors from the European Economic Area are routed to the nearest EU node
  3. Continent — if outside the EEA scope, the nearest node on the same continent is used
  4. NEAREST — if nothing else matches, the coordinate-based closest node is used as a final fallback
